Support for university students who are disadvantaged by the Corona crisis.
To stick together, despite all spatial separation and to be there for each other: The RWTH with its citizens' forum RWTHextern, its sponsoring association proRWTH e. V. and the AStA of the university jointly initiate a relief action to support students who are disadvantaged by the Corona crisis. The idea for "#RWTH hilft" was born in several places within the university, based on the wish of the RWTH members to get involved financially. "We feel a high degree of solidarity and commitment, that's great, and we want to make a difference together," explains the Rector of the RWTH, Ulrich Rüdiger.
The friends and supporters of proRWTH are initially providing a budget for bridging scholarships of 30,000 euros from a special fund. In addition, they are calling for a fundraising campaign via the support association.
"We have many talented students at the RWTH. Some of them have gotten into difficulties because the pandemic broke the financial basis for successfully completing the summer semester. We want to help these students with a bridging scholarship", explains Professor Ernst Schmachtenberg, chairman of the board of proRWTH.
Initially, support will be given to students who, for example, cannot participate in the "online semester" due to a lack of equipment or because it would be difficult or impossible for them to do so and would therefore be disadvantaged. Upon application, the Social Committee of the student parliament examines the need for support and organizes the distribution and payment of the funds together with proRWTH.
"The Corona crisis poses challenges to all students - and many of them face major problems. They need planning security in order to be able to continue their studies sensibly", says Marc Gschlössl, Chairman of the General Students' Committee AStA.
"#RWTH helps" provides fast and unbureaucratic support. "This action comes from within the RWTH and has quickly gained a great dynamic. The lecturers, the other employees and the friends and supporters are there for the students - in teaching and beyond", reports Professor Astrid Rosenthal-von der Pütten, Rectorate Commissioner for the RWTHextern Citizens' Forum.
Those who want to support and donate can do so by transferring a donation with the note "Bridging Scholarship" to the Förderverein proRWTH e.V.
