On September 1st, 2023, the first-ever sustainability conference titled "Bedburg, yes we can! - Living Sustainability Locally" took place at Bedburg Castle, under the direction of the Social City Office. The goal of the event was to provide citizens with the opportunity to engage with the many individuals who are volunteering and working towards a more sustainable world and a sustainable Bedburg. The event primarily targeted families, and many activities were specifically designed for children and teenagers.

The SmartQuart project was also represented by Kristina Niemann from E.ON, Leonie Pier from the City of Bedburg, and Sarah Welter and Lisa von Wittenhorst from RWTH Aachen University. At an information booth, visitors could learn about the SmartQuart project and the possibilities for participation. For younger visitors, there were various experiments that playfully introduced the topic of energy and received a great deal of interest. In a presentation by the project team, climate change and individual measures that can be taken to make a contribution were discussed. Additionally, the Resource Protection Settlement, as a part of SmartQuart, was introduced.
