Energy efficient quarters 3 ECTS - with draft 6 ECTS

Climate change, resource conservation, sustainability and CO2 reduction are currently shaping current social debates more than ever. The Federal Government has set itself high goals and defines them as follows: "[...]with its Energy Efficiency Strategy for Buildings (ESG), it aims to achieve a nearly climate-neutral building stock by 2050 [...]. Buildings and neighbourhoods play a central role in the energy turnaround, because there is enormous potential in the building sector to save energy and efficiently cover the remaining demand with renewable energies: In Germany, residential and non-residential buildings account for about one third of total energy consumption and CO2 emissions". (Cf. Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, Article: Research for energy-optimised buildings and neighbourhoods, 2020)

For planners, architects and engineers, the topic of energy efficiency is an obligatory component in their current and future work. Within this research field, students are sensitised to the topic and acquire basic knowledge about energy-efficient neighbourhoods. On the basis of a written analysis (term paper), students have the opportunity to expand their skills in scientific work.

The research field can be attended either as 3 ECTS or 6 ECTS courses: An analysis of the main topic of energy-efficient neighbourhoods (3 ECTS) and, based on this, a concretisation in the draft for the Essen location (6 ECTS).
