Teaching and research area for real estate project development

As part of the design work M1 in SoSe 21, the students developed a sustainable and energy-efficient design for a house of the energy turnaround in Kaisersesch, which is to be built in the context of the reallabor SmartQuart, in which iPE, among others, is involved.
Exciting spaces for exhibitions, lectures and hospitality were to be created on just under 400 sqm GFA. The wish of the community was to create a symbolic building with supra-regional appeal. As part of a smart energy quarter, the sustainable and resource-saving construction method as well as a climate-neutral heating and cooling supply were of great importance in the planning.

The students' designs were presented at a project presentation in August 2021 to representatives of the Kaisersesch community and the SmartQuart reallaboratory, among others.

To the event: Energy-optimized buildings

Student research project by Marcel Waibel
Kaisersesch is currently known mainly for its historical sights, but this is not all that the village has to offer. In addition to historical monuments, the town also stands for an idyllic landscape and will in the future be known for its SmartQuart project in the field of energy transition. These three worlds will be combined in the House of Energy Transition. Three exhibition levels generate guided insights and views into the three worlds and make the latest technologies tangible for the visitors and invite them to learn.

The floor plan is flexibly designed and can be solidly extended to the west due to the chosen construction. The foyer with lounge and adjoining outdoor area offers a wide view of the Kaisersesch landscape. The furniture of the exhibition promises a high degree of flexibility and versatility through the use of a module and integrates the visitors:inside through many different techniques. The construction and facade of the building are made of the ecological raw material wood. Through its use, the visitor:inside center simultaneously acts as a reservoir for CO2 and actively contributes to climate protection. Even the foundation is made without concrete, through the use of a wooden floor slab with screw foundations. Accordingly, the building is is not only quickly expandable, but also equipped for possible deconstruction.
