Due to the increasing demand for barrier-free living space, federal and state governments are reacting to different laws, standards and guidelines in order to meet this demand. However, there is no clear understanding of accessibility in construction. Depending on the area of application and conception, accessibility involves different structural requirements.
The article "Barrier-Free Building - Application and Demarcation of Accessibility" highlights the discrepancies in the use of the term accessibility based on selected laws, standards and guidelines and provides an overview of the resulting planning requirements.
