Autumn event at the Bedburg-Kaster resource protection settlement
October 2022
On Friday, 21.10.2022, the autumn festival took place in the afternoon in bright sunshine at the resource protection settlement in Bedburg-Kaster. Around 100 guests accepted the invitation of the SmartQuart reallaboratory to celebrate the progress made in the neighbourhood together. At the same time, they also took the opportunity to exchange ideas on the topic of the energy transition with those involved in the project and their soon-to-be neighbours. At information stands run by the project partners gridX, E.ON Energy Solutions, RWE Power and RWTH Aachen University, the building owners had the opportunity to find out more about the research and ask questions.
SmartQuart is the energy transition on a neighbourhood scale. Three intelligent, interconnected neighbourhoods will demonstrate how the transformation of the energy supply is possible in reality. An important prerequisite for this: people who animate and inhabit the smart quarters and give them space for ideas. This is also emphasised by Katja Uecker, Bedburg neighbourhood manager of E.ON Energy Solutions, in her welcoming speech: "You, as residents of the neighbourhood, are of course an essential part of SmartQuart, because only with you can the project succeed. And together with you, we want to investigate and explore the energy supply on site in more detail in the further course of the project."
In order to actively involve the future residents of the resource conservation settlement in the research, RWTH Aachen University provided information at its stand about the various participation options, such as taking part in surveys or user comfort monitoring. This is intended to show what the energy transition can look like in practice.
