Wirtschaftsförderung Rhein-Erft GmbH organized the "1st Rhein-Erft Digital Week" from September 6 to 11, 2021. As part of this series of events, all the municipalities in the district addressed the topic of "digitization" in different ways.

In Bedburg, interested citizens had the opportunity to attend the lecture event "Energy-efficient living in the neighborhood - already possible today?" on September 10, 2021, which was organized in the context of the SmartQuart research project. The event took place from 15:45 to 17:00 in the council hall of the central town hall in Kaster and was digitally transmitted.

The audience was treated to short keynote presentations that provided insights into resource-efficient construction and housing, energy supply and digital neighborhood energy management systems, as well as citizen and user involvement in the context of the energy transition. All contributions dealt thematically with the "Resource Conservation Settlement Bedburg-Kaster", which is part of the SmartQuart real laboratory funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The speakers included representatives from information technology (gridX GmbH), energy supply (E.ON Energy Solutions GmbH), research and science (RWTH Aachen University) and a development company (Faktor X Agentur). The event was complemented by information booths and a poster exhibition. Guests also had the chance to interact with project managers and other interested parties and to get to know the "Bedburg-Kaster Resource Conservation Estate", which is currently being developed, as part of a guided tour.
