Award 2020

For the first time, the BFW North Rhine-Westphalia and the teaching and research department for real estate development (IPE) of the RWTH Aachen University are jointly awarding the study prize "Innovation Bauen 2020". The aim is to make students aware of the diverse tasks in the construction and real estate industry and to inspire young talents for a career in the real estate industry.

"First life, then spaces, then buildings." (Jan Gehl, 1971, city planner)
Real estate is an essential part of our built environment. They have shaped the faces of our cities for many decades. This makes the aspect of design and integration of the property at its future location all the more important, taking into account future user expectations.

Sustainability is an obligation towards future generations.
The development of energy-efficient and resource-saving buildings is a central challenge of the construction and real estate industry. The advancing climate change demands future-oriented solutions. The BFW North Rhine-Westphalia is convinced that the "building of the future" can only succeed through interdisciplinary cooperation and requires other approaches apart from regulatory requirements.

In the course of the study prize "Innovation Bauen 2020", an inner-city office building in Mönchengladbach-Rheydt is to be revitalised. An exciting and versatile use and architectural concept for the property is to be developed.
